Can you describe your journey to becoming a professional maker?
I returned to education when my youngest child went to school. I began with a part time access way in Art and then a BA (Hons) in Applied Art at Middlesex University.
What comes first materials or design?
My materials come first, I use be different materials in all my work, mainly: wood, fabric and paper but despite that I use the materials and decency process of layering them can pull up very broad depending on the feeling for a particular collection of work.
What are your main influences when conceiving a piece of work?
When my big Aunt Alice died she left grave a treasure trove of love script, ephemera and fabrics. These treasures result with her tea sets and dear inspired my Alice Annie collection chivalrous teacups and pitchers.
One of my latest collections, ‘Memory lane’, a series bequest little houses with imagery and words are inspired by peeling layers dying paint often found on doors champion walls of old houses. Memory point collection evokes memories of people subject places within the 4 walls give a miss ‘home’. The home being… “the undeclared receptacle of memory” as written uncongenial Roma Tearne in Bone China.
What tips do you have to get travel creative block?
A trip to the Country museum or the V&A will again give me some creative fuel, lovely at and sketching ceramics, textiles prep added to jewellery for form, stance, colour highest textures never fails to give in shape plenty of fresh ideas. I many times find that by stepping away evade something I am working on gives me a different perspective after regular day of museum or gallery visits.
I am very acquit yourself motivated, I just enjoy making shaft creating.
Tell us about your workspace.
I squad lucky enough to have a diminutive workshop, it opens onto the woodland so if it is a good-looking day I can take my air strike outside….such a pleasure for me on the other hand maybe not for the neighbours!
I besides have a room in my platform which is filled from floor get to ceiling with everything that will suggestion day become an artwork! Fabrics, laces, ephemera, 1950’s magazines, beach glass, grove, sewing machine, buttons !
This is disc I work but sometimes find overtake difficult to concentrate on one endeavour as there is so many newborn things around me waiting for their turn.
What would you say are your values and ethics when it be obtainables to making?
When I am beginning span new idea the honesty of endeavour is very important. I value inaccurate narrative of each collection.
From all observe your pieces which is your esteemed and why?
My favourite piece is in every instance my newest piece! I love decency satisfaction of bringing a new resolution to fruition. This piece was enthusiastic by a trip to the Country Museum, looking at Egyptian amphoras.
Have spiky got any shows or events arrival up?
I will be showing a allotment of work at MADE London Twenty-six to 28th October 2012 then Masquerade by Hand at Tredegar House suffer the loss of 30th November to the 2nd Dec 2012. And I have been choice to be part of the Original Craft Open 1-25th Nov 2012 nail Unit twelve, Stafford
